Like many of you, I enjoy watching automotive racing. I recently got into F1, but have been a fan of World Rallycross for a number of years, partially due to Ken Block. As I write this, I am watching the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, one of my favorite forms of racing due to the fact that all of the cars running are reminiscent of vehicles you can go and buy from a dealership. Now, of course there are massive aero and mechanical modifications that are made so the vehicles are all somewhat on the same level, and competition remains interesting.

What I think would be more interesting than this, is a racing series where all entries are bone-stock, street legal vehicles that are mass-produced and available to the general public. Now of course what you are thinking right now is, “But Caleb, how would it be fair to put a 600 HP Lamborghini against a ~400 HP 911?” My answer? Its not, and that is why I feel it would be so interesting. I am thinking FoRS vs 911 vs TTRS vs AMG GT vs Viper vs Mustang vs Renault Clio vs 458 vs 675 LT vs Cayman GT4 and so on. There would be no classes, just flat out racing. How exciting would it be to see a WRX attempting to makie a risky overtake on an apex past an RS7? Or a Hellcat shooting down a straight with a M5 and FiST in hot pursuit?

I feel that if this were a series, manufacturers would begin to make more hard-core street legal vehicles, making the market much more interesting for us consumers.

So if you could build your own series, what would it look like?

Any type of car from any company but engine size has to be 1.5L or smaller and engines must have a single turbo.

Street tracks only

X6 vs SQ5 vs Juke Nismo. Remind me to fund this when I become rich and powerful.

It pretty much exists in the IMSA/ACO/SRO/VLN sanctioned sportscar racing.

But, what I would do, is I would take the IMSA Weathertech Series and reorganize it. LMP1L, LMP2, GTLM. In addition to that, we can’t just let all the LMPC and GTD team have no where to race. An additional series for the teams unable to switch to the more expensive prototypes and GT cars would also be made. But, the Oreca FLM09 is based on an ancient Courage chassis and will be replaced by LMP3, open to all the manufacturers.

I always wanted to see a street tuner honda civic lapping the Daytona oval. FWD boosted 4-cylinder stock cars would be awfully fun I think, especially with the demands of the front tires.

But seriously, touring cars on street courses would be a great time, but the package for it would be the show stopper. Boost your engine to unlimited levels, but 91 octane is the gas. The gas is the boost limit. RPM? unlimited. Why? Because every part in that engine has to be off the shelf stuff we all can buy from the internet vendors without a custom order. Oh yeah, that fuel...everyone only gets a fixed amount. Your mil.eage may vary and your power may be a gazillion hp but use up that gas and you can’t finish, also your front tires will go off oh so soon.

I envision smoking front tires and ill-handling power imbalances while trying to make tires last in the last few laps. Hopefully the engine doesn’t grenede.

I would create a series that, aside from safety, would only have two rules:

1) The starting point must be a road car chassis, which you are not allowed to modify between the wheels. So, for example, you could start with this, but you’re not allowed to alter any parts of it between the wheels. What you bolt to it is up to you.

2) Constructors must produce and sell identical cars to the ones they’re racing to any driver who requests one. There will be a pre-set price that the cars must sell for. This both allows for innovation and creative solutions, but also helps keep teams from winning solely through spending the most money, because a) if they spend too much on the car it means they’ll lose money on every one they sell, and b) even if their car is the best they’ll still have to compete on level ground with everyone who bought one.

24 hours, 5 drivers, 1 dog per team. everyone MUST remain in the car at ALL times. windows must remain up/down(team captain picks at beginning). teams are picked playground style(every team captain takes a turn to pick). captains are the financial money guy, and responsible for vehicle purchase.(part of the race is to buy the car and get it to the track)

enduro demo derby style, everyone in the vehicle is allowed 1 melee weapon.... (bat, axehandle, chains, sharp pointed sticks) each team assigned an “official”in charge of keeping the rules. vehicles must remain visually stock.

Have to limit them to like 250hp as well, otherwise they will just cut a half liter out of a WRC car.

I’d like to see LMP1, 2, and 3, GT1, 2, and 3. GT1 would be homologated prototypes sold by manufacturers. GT2 would be purpose built cars that look like street cars, with limits to place them between GT1 and GT3. LMP3 would be like the PC cars we currently have, and P2 would be bumped up a bit to be between P1 and P3.

We’re gonna turn the Ultracar Sports Club into the Ultracar World Series, and finally give the world some actual hypercars actually racing each other in real life.

10 tracks in 10 nations, limited tuning & setup. Rallycross-sized grid (5 drivers), two 6-lap races for quick-fire action. Two penalties and customer may lose their car (no, really you sign up for this, you gotta be careful, or the manufacturer will take the privilege away from you forever). Scrutiny will be tight. Customers will have to be paired with a driver that has an FIA Gold License or Silver License so they can drive clean and fast. Again, no mods, because we don’t want y’all to spend to GT1 levels and because they’re fast enough already.

Track versions will be separated from the road ones, but only one Manufacturer Championship.
